“Astro..what? What the heck is that?” That is what I would have said a year ago if you would have brought that word up. What is Astroherbalism? If you are like I was and don’t know, but you want to know more, keep reading.

Two Christmas’s ago my husband got me what he thought was just an herbal book. I started flipping through the pages and there was also astrology stuff in there. My nerdy side started coming out! This was very exciting to me. A few days later I was getting to know one of my co-workers. She was telling me that she was very much into astrology and I was telling her that I was very much into herbal medicine. I then mentioned to her that I just got this book and I think there is a way to tie herbs/health and astrology together. We both started nerding out. Then on my way home, I decided to listen to a podcast. The first one that popped up was all about Medical Astrology….I was all over that! All these signs pointing me in this direction.

I read that book in my spare time and still use it as a reference. I bought more books on astrology and medical astrology. I couldn’t get enough! I find it fascinating.

A few years ago I was studying Ayurveda. For those who don’t know what Ayurveda is, VERY briefly, it’s an ancient medicine system. They have 3 doshas. It’s believed that we all have all 3 doshas, but we are prominent in one. These 3 doshas are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata is air and ether, Pitta is fire and water, and Kapha is earth and water.

Medical astrology is very similar. Ayurveda is Eastern Medicine, to where Medical Astrology is ancient Western Medicine. Did you know that many, many years ago Western doctors had to learn astrology? Fascinating, huh?

Just like Ayurveda, Astrology has elements and these elements can say a lot. More on that later in this blog post.

I know there are a lot of skeptical people out there when it comes to astrology. Like many things, a few bad apples can cause misconceptions when it comes to certain topics. Astroherbalism isn’t like vague horoscopes you read in magazines. Once you really get into astrology you can tell why the horoscopes are so vague. When you read someone’s full birth chart that is when the magic happens. Most people just know what their Sun sign is.

The moon can cause changes with the oceans, why not us humans? So far I have dove deep in research with my own birth chart and two other people. I might add that these two people were open-minded, but more on the skeptical side. It was eerily accurate how their charts matched them and they were surprised! The planets don’t lie.

Going back to Ayurveda, except for my body shape, I am very Vata! Vata if you remember is Air. People with Air tend to talk fast and move fast. They tend to be more on the dry side (skin, tissue, and hair), they run cold, they tend to be more scatterbrained, and are more prone to having anxiety. That is all me! I have always felt very Vata. My birth chart is full of Air! My Ruling Planet is Mercury and Mercury is known for being airy and dry. I just can’t make this up. I have A LOT of Libra in my chart. Libras are known for having lower back issues just like I do.

I just mentioned that I run cold, the placement of my Saturn and Mars claims that I run cold.

One of the people’s birth charts I studied, I already knew a lot of their medical history. I told them before I saw their chart, “I bet you have a lot of earth and water in your chart”. Guess what they did!

I am so fascinated by how the planets can affect us! If you are still skeptical, you should definitely look into getting your birth chart done.

What is the Difference Between Medical Astrology and Astroherbalism?

I don’t know if you have noticed that I have used both terms. They are almost the same thing. Medical astrology is the connection between planets and someone’s health. Astroherbalism is the connection between the planets and plants….did you notice that they are almost the same word? Take E out of planet and you have______. I am not a fan of the term ‘medical astrology’, I feel like it’s too formal. I wish it was something like health astrology. Health coaches can totally use medical astrology, we are just not allowed to diagnose or treat people. However, we can guide you, by what your chart says.

Plants and Planets

It is fascinating how plants and planets can be connected...and even how humans can be affected by the two. I also have a lot of Venus in my chart, most of my favorite herbs are Venus plants. Venus plants tend to be beautiful and either dainty or lush plants, like Yarrow or Rose. Mercury plants tend to be really tall, have space, and can be grown in dry environments like fennel. Moon is all about water, so they are going to be plants that grow near water or hold a lot of water, like Aloe Vera or Burdock Root.

I will be sharing more about this in the future!

Please let me know if you have any questions.
