Before I tell you where I am going, I want to tell you briefly where I have been and who I am. My name is Stacie. I have been happily married for 19 years. I have two handsome teenage boys...although my oldest will be twenty in less than a year. Yikes...how did that happen so fast! I have two dogs, Oscar and Duke. I am a big-time animal lover. I need to be in nature often or I get really cranky. I love chocolate and can’t stand mustard.
For the past few years, I have been on a healing journey. When I was about 10 or 11 years old I started getting migraines. My migraines are the common migraines that most people think of. I don’t just get a really nasty headache. They mimic mini-strokes.
When I was about 26 or 27 years old I started getting anxiety symptoms. Even though a doctor told me I had anxiety, I denied it for 6 months. I literally thought I was going to die of a heart attack and had insomnia for 6 months until I accepted I had anxiety. Then I had moderate anxiety off and on for years.
Fast forward to about 7 years ago my world turned upside down. I went through a very stressful situation. My body wasn’t strong enough to handle the stress. My migraines and my anxiety were completely out of control. One causing the other like one vicious cycle. I was averaging about one migraine a week, which is A LOT for me. My anxiety was so severe, I could barely drive and I was getting to the point where I could barely leave the house.
I turned to Western medicine, which unfortunately made everything 10 times worse. I felt like I was letting my husband and kids down. I felt like I couldn’t get my responsibilities done. I had to heavily lean on my husband, which isn’t my style. In fact not leaving my house isn’t my style. I am a wanderer at heart. I love to be out and about exploring the world.
I then took baby steps learning and adopting a holistic diet. I slowly cut out processed food and brought in organic and Non- GMO foods. I was shocked at what it did. I was expecting it to help with my migraines, but not my anxiety….because anxiety is all in my head right? (Wrong actually) Changing my diet (which I want to be clear isn’t going on a diet...it was changing the way I ate,.period) helped both my migraines and my anxiety. In the last 5 years, I have had 2 migraines. My severe anxiety is gone. I do get anxious here and there, but I call that being human.
I went to school and got a diploma in Holistic Health Practice. I really got to know how the body works and how to take care of it holistically. Can I just say the more I learn about the human body, the all I can think of is we are magical beings? All the things the body does for us just boggles my mind in the most amazing way.
When I got out of school, I focused on helping people mainly with anxiety, but a little bit with depression. I learned a lot about the human mind. I learned that as a society we have been taught so many untrue things. So I have been busy unlearning a lot of these things and working on getting a healthy mindset.
Also when I was in school, I took several herbal medicine classes and fell in love. I am just amazed at all of the things that plants can do. This has turned into my passion. I love creating tinctures, herbal infusions, oil infusions, oxymels, and other herbal creations. I have bought so many herbal books and can’t get enough learning about herbs.
So that is where I have been, know I will tell you where I am going and why.
I think the main thing everyone knows about living a holistic lifestyle it’s all about mind, body, and spirit/soul. I got the body down….I got the mind down…..but what about the spirit/soul?
For last Christmas, my husband got me a book called Evolutionary Herbalism, by Sajah Popham. I started reading in March and then all the craziness with COVID happened and I put the book down for a few months. I started talking with one of my favorite coworkers at my job about astrology, which we are both fascinated with. I told her “I started reading a book about a couple of months ago that ties herbalism and astrology together”. We both got excited about this idea. On my way home that day I decided to listen to a podcast and the first one that pops up is A Plant Path with Sajad Popham, where he interviewed a lady named Kira Sutherland and they are talking about Medical Astrology. WHAT???
I felt like everything has been pointing me in this direction.
I listened and was so fascinated. I then started and finished reading the book. I started buying books and looking into blogs and articles about Astrology, Medical Astrology, and Astroherbalism. I have been busy the last few months learning the connection between our planets, plants, and us humans. My mind is blown!
What blows my mind, even more, is a couple of years ago I learned a lot about Ayurveda and they both (Ayurveda and my birth chart) pretty much say the same thing about me. Sajah Popham goes also goes into Ayurveda some in his book.
In Ayurveda, I am primarily Vata, but I have a Kapha body type. My ruling planet is Mercury which is Vata, but I also have a lot of Venus in my chart, which is Vata and/or Kapha. I did a chart for my husband, who has a very logical mind (which his chart pointed out) and is pretty skeptical when it comes to this kind of thing, but he was surprised at how accurate this all was.
I can keep going on and on, but I will save the rest for future blog posts.
So from now on I will be sharing articles all about Health, Herbs, Medical Astrology, Astroherbalism, our planets, sun, moon, and maybe some asteroids.
